Pashmina
is the most luxurious, ethereal, lightweight
and rarest cashmere wool in the world. Pashmina
cashmere comes from the Capra Hircus goat, habitating
the harsh and remote snow capped Himalaya mountains.
The high altitude, combined with the goat's
spartan diet and unique genetic makeup, enable
it to grow a coat of wool among the finest and
rarest on earth.
Local villagers gather the fibers
from thorny bushes on which the animals groom
themselves. The wool is then hand spun, hand
woven and finally hand dyed into beautiful pashmina
scarves, shawls, throws. This weaving project
was started in 1985, when a small group of Buddhist
monks began working with homeless boys from
the streets of Kathmandu. In collaboration with
local design artists, the monks taught a life
transforming trade. Over forty of the original
young artists are still with the company, earning
excellent wages and supporting their families.
Sales of our products in europe and the U.S.
are leaving a positive and lasting effect on
generations of families to come in the kingdom
of Nepal.
